For some considerable time, Harmondsworth and the surrounding villages of Harlington, Sipson, and Longford, have been under threat form Heathrow Airport expansion. Some are resigned to the fact that the destruction of these communities is not a case of “if” but more a case of “when”. However, ensuring that the church and the Tithe barn remain unscathed is so important for the local community.
It does seem inevitable now that a part of Harmondsworth will be used to make way for the impending third runway. The North East runway option has always been the popular choice with Heathrow Airport planners and is likely to get approval over the next couple of years or so. Although it is very difficult to stand in the way of progress, St Mary’s Church should remain untouched and be there for future generations.
